백종원 (Baek Jong-won) is a famous Korean chef, restaurateur, and TV personality who has shared many recipes over the years. Here's a recipe for 떡볶이 (tteokbokki), a popular Korean street food that consists of chewy rice cakes in a spicy sauce:

Ingredients:

  • 500g of tteok (Korean rice cakes)
  • 200g of fish cakes
  • 1 onion
  • 1 green onion
  • 5-6 dried red chili peppers
  • 2 tbsp of gochujang (Korean red pepper paste)
  • 2 tbsp of soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp of sugar
  • 1 tbsp of minced garlic
  • 1 tsp of sesame oil
  • 1 tsp of sesame seeds
  • 800 ml of water

Instructions:

  1. Cut the onion and green onion into small pieces and set them aside.

  2. Cut the fish cakes into bite-sized pieces and set them aside.

  3. Soak the tteok in cold water for about 10 minutes to soften them.

  4. Remove the seeds from the dried red chili peppers and cut them into small pieces.

  5. In a pot, add the water, gochujang, soy sauce, sugar, and minced garlic. Stir well and bring to a boil.

  6. Add the tteok, fish cakes, onion, and dried red chili peppers to the pot. Stir well and let it simmer for about 10-15 minutes until the sauce thickens and the tteok are cooked through.

  7. Add the green onion, sesame oil, and sesame seeds to the pot and give it a final stir.

  8. Serve hot and enjoy your delicious 떡볶이!
